CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2010 Metro Buckeye Cross Country Championships were held in beautiful, near perfect conditions at John Bryan State Park. And while the women’s results were as anticipated the men’s race was very competitive.
In the women’s race Xenia Christian , led by their star harrier, Bethany Norman, dominated as they repeated as champions with just 38 points. Norman, a sophomore, won her second straight title, winning by over two minutes in the excellent time of 19:10. Yellow Springs’ sophomore Lois Miller was runner-up in 21:28 with Sarah Grady of Troy Christian third in 22:01. Middletown Christian was second in the team scoring with Yellow Springs third.
In the men’s race Emmanuel Christian’s Kevin Stewert continued the success he has had all season over his conference foes by striding away over the second mile to win the individual title in the men’s race. Stewert’s winning time was 16:52. Troy Christian’s Kyle Klinger closed the gap at the end to claim second in 17:12. Miami Valley School senior Elliot Watson was third on 17:46.
Yellow Springs high school seniors Gabe Amrhein and Nerak Patterson led Yellow Springs to the hotly contested men’s title by finishing 5th and 7th overall. Yellow Springs topped Emmanuel Christian 60 to 71 with last year’s champ Troy Christian third with 72. It was Yellow Springs’ sixth conference title in the past seven years.
