With whole watermelons, rather than trophies or plaques, presented as prizes there will be plenty of cold, ripe, watermelon for refreshment after hard workouts at the home of siblings Christina and Andy Peters this week.   The duo laid claim to the individual male and female titles at the 24th Annual Village Fun Run on Sunday evening.

Andy Peters, a senior at Yellow Springs HS, was the overall winner over the field of 50 runners, joggers and walkers.   Peters, who is this year's team captain for the High School's Cross Country Team, toured the 2 mile circuit on the streets of Yellow Springs in 10:30.  Evan Firestone, an alumni harrier headed to Wright State University on a cross country scholarship was runner-up in 11:01. Jacob Gunderkline, a HS junior was 3rd.

Peters’ older sister, Christina, headed back to Goshen College in Indiana for her second year in cross country and a major in Physics, finished 13th overall to claim the top spot among the women.  Christina’s winning time was 13:21.  Kai Cobles was second among the women in 13:36 with Yellow Springs high school frosh Allison Berry winning the scholastic division and placing third in 13:50.
